Girls on the Run of Greater Richmond is growing! We are in need  volunteers to help us with operations and site management.

We are currently seeking applicants for a Programs Manager and an assistant Programs Manager. Both positions are unpaid positions and part time. There is potential for growth in this volunteer position to become a paid position pending performance over 1 season of training. Please read below for more information about the  position.

Position Profile

The Girls on the Run Program Manager (PM) must possess a passion for and commitment to improving the lives and opportunities of girls in third through eighth grades. The Girls on the Run program provides a safe and interactive way to learn about healthy living which includes an introduction and education on important topics such as goal-setting, cooperation, healthy decision-making, and self-respect, while training for a 5K event.  The innovative curriculum teaches girls to listen and open up while also encouraging them to commit to a healthy lifestyle, and harness the inner strength that they possess. Our important mission is accomplished by giving girls the tools to make positive choices for a healthy body and mind, while reducing the many risks they face today.

Supervision Received

Works under the general supervision of the Executive Director. Programs Assistant to work directly with Programs Manager.

Supervision Exercised

Exercises direct and general supervision over volunteer coaches.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Program Outreach and Site Management
  • Implement the Girls on the Run strategic program plan and achieve program goals with respect to number of girls and number of sites per season.
  • Responsible for GOTR and future GOT teams including coach recruitment from the community, coach retention, site recruitment, retention and other needs specific to each team.
  • Work with community leaders, schools and other groups to maximize Girls on the Run success.
  • Market and promote GOTR program to potential new sites
  • Work with the Executive Director to facilitate new site application, vetting and onboarding process.
  • Coordinate all new and existing sites, including online registration, recruitment and program delivery.
  • Enforce all current site policies and procedures and generate innovation and improvement as needed.
  • Troubleshoot issues that arise at sites and with volunteer coaches.

Coach Management and Training:

  • Recruit, interview and onboard-qualified volunteer coaches.
  • Manage planning aspects of coach training each season including training facility, verifying and updating CPR certifications and background checks into GOTR GR database.
  • Ensure all program sites are staffed with qualified volunteer coaches.
  • Communicate frequently with coaches, answering questions and providing resources.
  • Ensure all coach applications are up to date each season.
  • Recruit, train and manage Team Adelaide volunteers to visit sites and evaluate programming.
  • Enforce all current coaching policies and procedures and generate continuous improvement.
  • Send out weekly communication to volunteer coaches.

Program Management:

  • Develop and execute coach and site retention plan.
  • Manage inventory for coach boxes including supplies and curriculum.
  • Manage the packing process to prepare for each season including coach boxes, program materials and paperwork for each site.
  • Assist with the community 5k preparation including run buddy management, assignment and training.
  • Provide reports as needed for staff and board.

Peripheral Duties

Performs all other duties as determined by the Executive Director

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be comfortable engaging in both strategic activities as well as taking a hands-on role with regards to program execution and administrative issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Four year degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of demonstrated experience with program management.
  • Passion for Girls on the Run’s mission and the ability to comprehend and effectively communicate issues surrounding empowerment, self-esteem, body image and whole-person health.
  • Outstanding communication and organization skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software and database management.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and make efficient decisions.
  • Flexible and adaptable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in related field
  • Strategic planning experience
  • Experience with Girls on the Run (or other similar youth or wellness programs)
  • Non-profit experience
  • Connections to the local community

Position Specifics

This is a part time volunteer position at this time. Some weeks depending on the cycle of the season are more time consuming than others. Hours will range from 20 to 5 hours a week during our busiest and slowest time of the year, respectively.

*This position comes with a great deal of responsibility. Volunteer PM and APM that are able to fulfill the position as outlined above for one season will be considered for “staff” positions in the following season.
